“The Beginning of My Sketchbook”

The Beginning of My Sketchbook is a visual art journal that documents my transition from ten years of working almost exclusively in digital painting to discovering the tactile, unpredictable world of sketchbooks.

The book was born during my postgraduate study in Children’s Book Illustration & Graphic Novels, Middlesex Universiry (MA) in the UK, where I was encouraged to step away from the screen and experiment with traditional media. What began as hesitant pages of gouache, watercolour, and mixed media quickly became an exploration of identity, process, and voice.

The sketchbook became both a diary and a laboratory: a place where I confronted mistakes, embraced imperfections, and discovered a more authentic, playful style that has since shaped my professional work. Each page reflects not only an artistic experiment but also a cultural perspective — bringing Thai imagery, everyday life, and global influences into dialogue.

The Beginning of My Sketchbook offers readers an intimate look into an artist’s process, balancing raw experiments with reflective commentary. It is part creative memoir, part artbook, and part encouragement to artists and students who are searching for their own visual language.
